Ramadan is not just a month of fasting but also a month of charity. Calculating Zakat and Fitra correctly is crucial for every eligible Muslim. This guide covers the updated Nisab rates for 2026, country-wise Fitra amounts, and the spiritual importance of Sadqa.

What is Zakat and Nisab?

Zakat is the third pillar of Islam. It is mandatory for every adult, sane Muslim who owns wealth exceeding the Nisab (minimum threshold) for a full lunar year.

Current Nisab Values (2026 Estimates)

The Nisab is defined by Gold and Silver standards:

  • Gold Nisab: 7.5 Tola (approx 87.48 grams).
  • Silver Nisab: 52.5 Tola (approx 612.36 grams).

Note: If your cash savings and other assets equal the value of 612.36g of Silver, you are eligible to pay Zakat.

Importance of Sadqa (Voluntary Charity)

While Zakat and Fitra are obligatory (Farz/Wajib), Sadqa is voluntary charity that can be given at any time. In Ramadan, the reward for Sadqa is multiplied 70 times.

"Charity extinguishes sin just as water extinguishes fire."
(Tirmidhi)

Sadqa protects against calamities, heals the sick, and brings barakah (blessings) to your wealth. Do not hesitate to give even a small amount daily.
