In India, Shab-e-Barat is observed with deep reverence. Mosques are illuminated, and special gatherings for Zikr and Naat are held. People visit graveyards to pray for their departed loved ones, following the Sunnah.
It is a night of seeking forgiveness. Families in India also have traditions of preparing sweet dishes (like Halwa) and distributing them among neighbors and the poor as a form of Sadaqah.
